Films: Faust-Love of the Damned (2000)

Summary: Just when you thought you were out of the time of ultra-dark superheroes empowered by evil, it comes back in...interesting fashion, at least. And when we say fashion, we mean fashion. I mean, who designed that costume?! Oh wait, the Devil did.

History: John Jaspers was just an ordinary guy until some gangsters killed his girlfriend. Overcome with grief, he struck a deal with the man known as M (actually Mephisto himself) to make those guys pay. He got his wish, but now he had to serve as Faust, an empowered being that kills whoever M wants him to. It seems like an alright living, but in time he finds love again, and M won't tolerate insubordination. Not while he can summon the monstrous Homunculus and open up Hell to conquer Earth...

Notable Kills: M eats someone alive with a belly mouth, and...well, see Final Fate.

Final Fate: After M kills Claire by HORRIFICALLY enlarging her breasts and butt before melting her, he has his whole cult summon the Homunculus...before the beast and Faust engage in a rather wimpy fight that ends with our hero stabbing the monster in the head, sending it back. He then banishes M as well by slashing him to death, but at the cost of his own life.

Powers/Abilities: John can become the twin wrist blade-wielding Faust at any given moment. M can manipulate reality in any way he chooses. The Homunculus can fire a beam of power or telekinesis from the pentagram on its forehead.

Weakness: Only the forces of Hell can kill one another.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Well, we'll give it this. The forces of Hell, regardless of affiliation, are relentless with the body horror and the violence, especially M (played by none other than Andrew Divoff) and the Homunculus. But poor Faust, in spite of the effort, looks more like the Noid if anything, and is actively trying not to hurt people who don't deserve it.

Trivia: -This film was based off the first act of a comic series of the same name that began in the 80s. It was just as brutal and edgy, though unlike the film, Faust lives to see further adventures.

-This film was meant to be released in the late 90s, but due to the middling reception of similar movies, it was put on hold until the heat died down. It clearly didn't pan out as they intended.
